Hello!
Not gonna lie, I haven’t had a ton of time for movies this month. Past me (the one who consumed movies like my life depended on it) would be disappointed at my diminished competitive urges, but I gotta say, it’s been kinda nice (mainly because that time was occupied by a trip to Italy… so not much to complain about).
That being said, I am very excited for the June screenings. What could be better than new Celine Song and Mamma Mia?? I personally can’t think of anything, and I’m so excited to have a group of people to watch both with!
Predictions:
Both will make me cry (probably for different reasons??)
I will want to watch both on a loop until “Oh, Hi” comes out and/or I can get to an ABBA dance party.
I don’t have a third prediction, but three bullet points looks better than two.
That’s all for now!
See you at the movies and on the internet!!
Abbie

“I am just a very amateur enthusiast of movies, theaters, and the filmmaking process! I love staying up-to-date on the goings on in the industry. If anybody in the DC area wants to get together for a screening, I’m always down.”

Top 4 favorites (and why):
Once: I love the story behind this movie - the insanely low budget, the non-professional actors, the tiny filming window. But more importantly, it’s one of the most honest and sincere portrayals of the innate power of music to bond people, to provide them with the opportunity to grow together and individually.
Jurassic Park: What’s to be said that hasn’t already? It’s a masterpiece in every facet. Everything is intentional. The score is unmatched. It changed the way we think about what movies can do.
Empire Records: It’s wacky, oddball hangout-movie that makes you want to live in it. The characters are both overdone and hyper-realistic, the needledrops can’t be beat, and - while sometimes nonsensical - always leaves a big smile on my face.
The Taste of Things: I was mesmerized by this movie, from the first minute to the last. The camerawork is phenomenal, the performances subtle and nuanced, and the set design magical. While very different, it reminds me of Once in a small way, in that it communicates passion so vividly that you can’t help but be moved. It holds its audience in a state of rapture.
Hot film take: The first is maybe basic, but - The Last Jedi is mostly fantastic. Second - Furiosa was better than Fury Road.
Lowest rated movie: The Out-Laws. Netflix movie with Nina Dobrev and Adam Devine. Completely horrific.
Most watched movie: Sing Street, She’s All That, or How to Train Your Dragon - they are my happy places.
Favorite director: Probably either Soderbergh or the Coen brothers
“So bad, it’s good” movie: I kinda really liked Adam Sandler’s Pixels? Really bad movie but also a wildly fun cast and ridiculously fun. Or Jingle All The Way with Schwarzenegger.
Most recommended movie: The Princess Bride. There may not be a more quotable movie, and it’s truly just a delightfully fun piece of moviemaking.
Most anticipated movie: Very excited for 28 Years Later! As well as Materialists.
